In 2025 we began a groundbreaking research initiative focused on corporate governance practices in private companies. Conducted through a partnership between the Private Directors Association (PDA) and the New Governance Lab at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, the study examined governance trends, board practices, and emerging priorities among privately held companies.

This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to advancing corporate governance in private companies and equipping leaders with insights to navigate an evolving business landscape. As one of the few research initiatives dedicated specifically to governance practices in privately held companies, the study provided valuable benchmarking data and practical insights for directors and executives.

Survey participants include directors of private, for-profit organizations. Individual responses are strictly confidential and reported only in aggregate form. Survey results from the past two years are linked below.
